Spring Dreams

Spring Dreams | Freckled Italian

We're getting to that time of year down here in North Carolina when spring feels like it's just a whisper away. We fall asleep with the windows open and wake up to cool air loaded with the scent of fresh rainfall. Ender comes in from the sidewalk with paws that are always chilly and damp and smell even more like corn chips or buttered toast than usual.

I have been saying "it was a hard year" for longer than I can remember--I think it's been more than just one. But the promise of spring brings with it hopes of new beginnings--of tender green sprouts shooting upwards despite the long, cold winter that laid on top of it for months.

A few weeks ago someone I hadn't spoken to in years reached out to patch things up, and I didn't realize it at the time but now it feels a lot like a small piece of myself has found its way back into place.

Funny how that happens, right when you need it.
