Some Things You May Not Know About Me v.8

If I'm having a snack that comes in a package I have to put it on a plate or in a bowl, but if I get takeout I always eat it right out of whatever container it came in. Rob is the opposite. (But really, isn't like half the point of getting takeout so you don't have to do dishes? I think so.)

One of my favorite things to do is look at how far cities are from each other on Google Maps and then plan hypothetical day trips.

I used to wash my hair only once a week but now it's more like every 10-12 days. I finally had a chance to try this stuff (affiliate link) in Las Vegas and it's ridiculous and amazing and will change everything. Dramatic much? It's true, though. I realized last week though that I don't actually hate washing my hair, I hate drying it (it takes forever).

I like my face a lot but wouldn't mind fuller lips. (As long as I don't have to do anything to get them--natural Angelina Jolie lips you just magically wake up with are a thing, right?)

I'm really interested in reducing waste and simplifying, especially when it comes to my kitchen (and closet)--I just bought a few of these reusable bags and I'm really excited about them. (If anyone has any tips or recommendations for simplifying their kitchens, closets, or cabinets I'd love to hear them!)

I've been in bed by 9:30 almost every night this year. It's awesome.

What are some things people may not know about you?

To a More Perfect Union

I had planned an essay post today but was hit with some pretty heavy writers block. One of my goals for 2017 is to not push things that aren't ready--to do better in all the areas of my life, but especially the creative ones. Sometimes that means just being patient.

Then I came across this lovely poster made by two super talented people whose paths I've crossed in Charlotte, and I felt called to share it with you today, on the inauguration of the next President of the United States. Regardless of your party affiliation or political beliefs, I think we all ought to commit to a more perfect union.

A few of my favorite points:

  • You have power in creativity. Unleash it. Wield it.
  • Remember your immigrant roots.
  • Think critically. Act empathetically.
  • If you're scared to speak up, you must.
  • Manifest passion, respect, love, and open-mindedness.

Thank you for creating this, Sam and Matt

Recipe: Chocolate Fondue

I made some savory cheese and oil fondues for La Crema this week, so you know I had to take a few extra minutes and whip up a chocolate fondue! I have been really into raspberries lately--I love them on their own, but you really can't beat a fresh berry dipped in warm chocolate sauce. I also picked up some strawberries, blackberries, and some really beautiful satsuma mandarins.

This recipe is really easy--you only really need the two main ingredients (cream and chocolate), but I like to add about a tablespoon of butter to make it super smooth and silky.

Chocolate Fondue

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 tablespoon of grass-fed butter (optional but encouraged!)

Instructions:

  1. Use your fondue pot (or a regular saucepan) to heat up the cream.
  2. Slowly add chocolate and stir to combine as everything melts together.
  3. Add the butter and stir to combine. Transfer to fondue pot if you prepared the sauce on the stove. Serve with fresh fruit (you could also dip cookies and marshmallows--whatever your heart desires!).

This recipe is delicious on its own as a treat, but it was even better following the other fondues I made, plus a glass or two of La Crema wines--I poured their Monterey Pinot Gris and some Monterey Chardonnay as well. I'm already planning a low-key Valentine's Day at home with this exact same menu.

This post is brought to you in partnership with La Crema. For more fondue recipes, check out my post on their blog today!
