Some Things You May Not Know About Me v.15

I really can’t stand it when my nails get longer than my fingertips. I’ll even cut them myself before getting a manicure to make sure I don’t walk out of there with nails too long.

It doesn’t matter how delicious it might be, I don’t buy anything advertised as “guilt free” or “reduced guilt” (I’m looking at you, Trader Joe’s guacamole). I’ve been working really hard lately to remove emotional weight from food and I think that is just a really damaging way to think about it. (My only exception is sometimes La Croix, which I will buy every now and again. They don’t say they’re “guilt free” but they do use the word “innocent” to further explain that their water doesn’t have any sweetener in it.)

I’m a 9 on the Enneagram. I’m just starting to learn more about these personality types but I have found it so interesting so far, especially in the context of relationships.

I would choose a ham and cheese croissant over a chocolate one 9 times out of 10.

I very rarely listen to new music or look for it—I wouldn’t mind discovering a few new favorite bands but at the same time I just love listening to Death Cab pretty much non-stop.

I’ve been re-reading the Harry Potter series for the first time in years and I forgot how much I love it. When I was in grad school I wrote a couple papers on the books and haven’t picked them back up since then.

I have really bad transitional anxiety—anytime there’s a change in my day-to-day life it makes me feel like I could jump out of my skin—even if it’s something that’s going to make things easier for me in the long run, like hiring a babysitter or getting a dog walker. I don’t know if it’s a control thing or what but it’s been a challenge for me and I wish I could just chill out a little more sometimes. Even little things like planning for a trip throw me for a loop.

I can’t stand those little wooden sticks you use to stir your coffee, but I don’t mind the wooden paddle spoon things that sometimes come with a scoop of ice cream.

If I save someone’s phone number, I like having people’s first and last names in my phone.

I still never think I’m doing enough.

I’m currently watching Three Wives One Husband and listening to The Dream and I am completely obsessed with both. If it’s about a cult, I want to hear about it.

I used to run almost every day for a really long time and then I just kind of stopped. We recently got a jogging stroller and Sophie and I take it out for a spin at least 4 times a week now. It feels like a little part of myself fell back into place.

I'm pretty bad at keeping a secret--if you tell me a secret I'll keep it for you, but if I buy you a gift or plan something as a surprise I'll almost always tell you about it before it happens because I get too excited about it.

We get In N Out for dinner every Sunday night and it's become one of my favorite family traditions. Rob goes to get it while I'm putting Sophie down and then we eat at the coffee table and watch whatever show it is we're currently binging (right now it's Modern Family). My order is a 3x2 protein style with grilled onions and chilis. I look forward to it every week.

I really, truly thought I had a gluten intolerance for years but then I got pregnant and ate a lot of bread. I probably eat gluten every other day now and I feel just fine--I have no idea what happened.

I want to get rid of 98% of my clothes and just start over. For the past few years I've been getting rid of stuff but I haven't been super great about replacing them, so now I have a bunch of stuff that's either super old or doesn't fit. I hate spending money on clothes but I think a pretty major shopping spree is in my future.

I'm way too emotionally invested in the rose bush we have in our backyard. I have literally killed an air plant so I am super excited that this bush, which had roses on it when we first came to see the house, bloomed again this spring. I know it has nothing to do with me but I just assumed it would die since I live here now.

I can't stop listening to Johnathan Van Ness' podcast. ANYONE ELSE?
