Reading A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, which I found on my bookshelf the other day and have somehow never read until now. It's so beautifully written and I'm really enjoying taking my time with it.

Watching so much Modern Family. I've had a tough couple of months, and watching that show with Rob always makes me laugh, cheers me up, and brings me optimism. I love how it can be so hilarious and ridiculous but always ends up making me cry in the last minute or two. Such a wonderful show.

Missing Minneapolis, a lot. I thought that once it started to cool down up there I'd be happy to have "escaped" it, if you will, but I'm finding myself really wishing we were back, feeling those cold mornings and wondering when that first snow will come. It doesn't help that there are countless fabulous restaurants, my favorite coffee shop, and a few great friends of mine who I really miss, too.

Looking forward to another long stretch of no events. My friend Tina's wedding was a few weeks ago and we had some time to wind down here in our new place, and then yesterday I got back from another long weekend in Roanoke for a going-away party and a baby shower for two different friends. It's still really nice being able to drive back and see people, but sometimes I feel like Rob and I are always on the move.

Thinking about some people in my life who lost a dear friend unexpectedly over the weekend. My heart is broken for all of them. Life is short, and it's devastatingly unfair sometimes.

Loving these cooler mornings and the hint of fall in the air here in North Carolina. I think my favorite season might finally be upon us (she says impatiently on this, the first day of fall)!

What have you been up to currently?

Thanks, Dani, for the post inspiration!

On Being a Wife
v.a.photography_the_plantation_at_sunnybrook_roanoke,va_megan&rob-749.jpg

Every morning I stand in the kitchen, watching my husband have breakfast at the bar. It sounds so silly, but it's one of the times every day when I really feel like a wife. We aren't much into traditional gender roles, but because I work from home, sometimes it feels like it might look like we do. Either way, making him a cup of coffee while he gets ready for work in the morning makes me smile, whether it screams "housewife" or not.

We've only been married for four months. But even after living together for several years, there are old things that somehow now feel new. I think it's the move from Minneapolis to Charlotte more than the marriage, though, because I didn't really feel this way in Minnesota. Making our bed. Eating dinner together on the couch. Waking up on a Saturday and vowing to do absolutely nothing all day.

And then there are the new things that will still feel new for months. Referring to Rob as my husband, or his parents as my in-laws. Taking the train to meet him for lunch in the city. Driving instead of flying to visit a friend in another city. Writing "Megan Peterson" on anything. After we moved, we finally unpacked our wedding gifts, so this apartment feels like the first place we've lived since the wedding. New plates, new glasses, new pots and pans, a new life together.

Fall is on its way and I'm always amazed at how nostalgia just floods my heart and brings me right back to high school or college or whatever I was doing the previous year. And every year, I pick up a few new experiences and add them to the emotional album that is my life. Last year we were planning a wedding, visiting Virginia for engagement photos and a party, missing fall while we felt winter slowly but surely descend upon Minneapolis. We turned an unfamiliar place into our home, and as I find myself missing it so much this year, I can't help but think about where I will be next year--hopefully feeling settled and at home here in North Carolina.

A lot can happen in a year.

Sepia-Toned Loving: Sharing Photos with Seahorse

I don't know about you, but for me, half the fun of sharing photos on social media is in going back, months later, and reminiscing about that hike, meal, wedding, cup of coffee, or whatever it was that made you stop and snap a photo in the first place. So I scroll through my feed, sometimes through two years of photos.

I was just introduced to Seahorse, which is a mobile application that lets you grab photos from multiple sources (Facebook, Instagram, your phone, etc.) and put them into collections, called "Scenes." Then you can add friends to each scene and they can contribute photos to create a shared experience. I think this would be so fun for a bachelorette party or wedding weekend! You can add all of your friends and share photos along the way.

The scenes I've created so far are "Wedding Photos," "Minnesota" (probably my favorite right now), and "North Carolina." I added Rob to my Minnesota one so he can add photos from his phone, too. It makes such a nice little shared album!

Do you use Seahorse? If not, you should download it (here for Android and here for Apple) and let me know what you think! The app is free, but with the promo code CLEVERHORSE, you can get an extra 5GB or storage until October 31st!

I was selected for this opportunity as a member of Clever Girls Collective and the content and opinions expressed here are all my own.
