Hi guys! We got back from California late last night, so I'll be unpacking and catching up on emails today, but I wanted to try to jump back into a regular posting schedule right away with this What I Wore look from a few weeks ago. I have a lot more pictures from San Francisco and Sonoma, so I hope you're excited to see some of them soon!

I bought this crop top at the BCBGeneration store in Mall of America last year because I saw it and thought "hell yeah, I'm twenty-something, let's do this," and then I never wore it once. I feel like the rule with crop tops is that your belly button has to be covered--is that a real thing?--and even my super high-waisted jeans still left the majority of my stomach exposed.

It wasn't until I paired it with my favorite pencil skirt that I realized I could put it on and then actually leave the house. And while it's not exactly a work-appropriate look, I think it's perfect for happy hour or a night out with the girls.

I originally bought this dress to wear to my rehearsal dinner last year. My mom and I were at the J.Crew Factory outlet (where I miraculously found those dreamy dresses for all of my bridesmaids at a ridiculously good price), checking out the selection of white cocktail dresses for my bridal shower, bachelorette party, and other wedding-related events. I ended up picking this light pink one instead--I loved the fluffiness of the skirt and the light pink color so much.

For the rehearsal dinner, I added some white accessories--shoes and a statement necklace--to up the "bridal" elements of the dress, but I love it the way it looks and feels with nude shoes and a more everyday necklace.

I have to confess that, while I love sharing personal style inspiration here on the blog, I'm really not much of a shopper--everything I'm wearing in these photos (with the exception of jewelry)  is at least two years old. I don't hate shopping, I just love a lot of things that I already own; and I enjoy restyling old pieces into new outfits, which is what I did here with this black skirt and white top. I had actually never paired this shirt with anything but jeans, and voilà--a new outfit!

These pairings always make me think I could pull off a capsule wardrobe (still something I've been flirting with), but when it comes time to get rid of stuff I haven't worn in a while, I start to have trouble. I haven't worn this skirt in at least two years, but when I pulled it out of my closet the other day I was so happy to have it. It felt like I was shopping in my own wardrobe--which I'm pretty sure is the philosophical enemy of the capsule wardrobe, but whatever. That's something to figure out another day.
