This is a Post About a Sale

I’m not usually one to get excited about sales online and especially not in stores, but earlier this week I was putting together a very short list of things I might need for fall and winter (a rain jacket, a hat) and realized that Gap was having a pretty awesome sale. Watching Sophie grow so rapidly these past 9 months has me pretty much refusing to pay full-price for any of her clothes, so I decided to buy a few things for her own little fall and winter wardrobe! Now I’m even more excited about autumn’s arrival and daydreaming about what she might wear for her birthday and Thanksgiving.

There’s tons of stuff on sale (I have my eye on these joggers), I just went a little crazy on the baby stuff. Here’s what I got for Sophie (and a couple of things I wish I had grabbed…although there’s still time):

  • The hat that started it all—I kept thinking it would be so cute to get Sophie a pom pom hat for the winter and this is the one I got.

  • I ordered three of these little onesies: the polka dot one you see below, a striped one, and a really pretty yellow color that I loved.

  • I didn’t get this dress because they don’t have the size we need but holy cow did I love it. If one of you has a younger baby please get it and send me a picture so I can live vicariously through you.

  • Sweet little denim joggers. I mean, come on.

  • Sophie has a pair of lighter overalls that she wore this summer, but I love these darker ones for fall and winter (probably paired with one of the long-sleeved onesies!).

  • Another hat—this one I found after I placed my order and am wondering if it’s worth ordering on its own and paying for shipping. What do you think?

The sale goes through the 15th, just make sure to use the code COZY at checkout! Like I said, I don’t usually post about sales like this but I texted enough friends about it that I figured I might as well share on the blog, too!

Fall Wish List: Black + Grey + Light Pink

It's that time of year again! Fall is just a couple weeks away and I'm dreaming of jeans and sweaters and boots as usual. This time, though, I'm also thinking about a few things I'd like to add to my wardrobe that might make life a little easier with a newborn (or, to be honest, just getting excited about fitting into regular pants again soon--fingers crossed)! I have a feeling that I'll be focused a bit more on comfort over style this fall and winter, but that doesn't mean I can't indulge in a few beautiful pieces! My wardrobe is already mostly black and stretchy (hello, leggings) and I haven't had to buy a ton of maternity stuff, so I think I'll be able to cruise right through labor and delivery and bringing home baby without having to splurge on too many new things for my closet this season.

Having said that, here are a few things I've got my eye on:

  • I'm always on the lookout for a classic baseball cap that I can throw on when my hair is crazy but I don't feel like wearing a beanie or a floppy hat. This one looks like it could work, and I kind of love the light pink.
  • I have a sweater that's kind of like this but it's more of a turtleneck than a poncho--I feel like this one would be perfect over a tank top to make nursing in public a little easier (although it would be gorgeous and comfy whether you're breastfeeding or not).
  • I've been flirting with the idea of getting an Apple Watch--I think it would actually help me unplug a bit more and keep my phone in my bag instead of constantly scrolling through social media without a second thought. I like the idea of just knowing when you get messages or calls and responding from there, and now that the new one will have cellular service I feel like going on walks and things without a phone would be much more manageable. I never really felt like they were remarkably beautiful, though, but I'm really loving the metal band on this one.
  • This is a wish list, so I can add $400 sunglasses, right? These are way out of my budget but I love how big they are--perfect for slapping them over a sleep-deprived and makeup-less face on a Saturday morning coffee run!
  • I threw away my post-college skinny jeans a few months ago (they didn't fit me anymore, even before I got pregnant), and I think I owe it to myself to buy a new pair so I'm not constantly in athletic wear or jeggings...I think these are just perfect. (I'm a sucker for a high waist.)
  • Fossil recently sent me this bag in brown and it is the perfect fall piece. It matches everything and is big enough to carry a water bottle, snacks, my wallet, and any other stuff I need on my way out the door--sometimes I even throw a sweater in there! It also has a little clutch that zips up, which I love using for lip balm and to keep my keys from getting lost.
  • We got a lot of rain in the Bay Area last fall and winter which reminded me that I don't really have a good rain coat. This one is almost perfect, I just wish it were a tiny bit shorter. I'm still looking for the perfect one, but if I don't find something by October or November I may end up ordering this one because it's really lovely and also has a hood, which I definitely need.
  • While we're on the subject of rain, the only rain boots I have are ankle-length, which are cute but not exactly practical. I really love the classic look of these simple black Hunters.
  • Finally, a good pair of casual sneakers. I'm not really a jeans and sneakers girl (I usually opt for Chucks if I'm going in that direction), but I think a comfy but cute pair of tennis shoes would be great for running around town or walking around with Ender and/or the stroller after the baby gets here. These New Balances are so cute and minimal enough that I think they'd go with everything.

What's on your wish list this fall?

My Favorite Non-Maternity Maternity Clothes

Every time I start a blog post with "I don't want this to become a mommy blog..." you can bet I'm about to share something pregnancy-related. However! I've been working on this post for a few days and then someone actually requested it from me on Instagram so here it is!

I've worked really hard to get rid of all the clothes I don't absolutely love and wear all the time, so the thought of buying maternity clothing really bugged me. I decided to see how long I could go before I had to buy anything specifically for my changing body, and it worked really well! I'm still mostly wearing the clothes I owned before, and have only recently bought a few items to get me through the summer. I'm hoping that when the weather cools down again, my regular wardrobe of leggings and baggy sweaters will serve me well and I won't have to keep buying new stuff.

So without further ado, here are some of the things I already had (or bought in my first trimester) that aren't actually maternity pieces, but worked really well through 20 weeks or so of pregnancy (some of them are still just great)!

  • I have a couple drawstring rompers much like this one that were the first thing to stop fitting, but worked really well for a few months (although when you have to pee all the time it's kind of a pain to get on and off).
  • These tanks are less than 5 bucks at Old Navy and I bought 5 or 6 of them (size large, for reference--I'm usually a small or medium). They're fitted but stretchy and long enough to fit over my growing bump.
  • A big baggy sweater to throw on in the mornings--I love that the Bay Area is always chilly early and late every day. I wear something like this to the barre studio or when I'm walking Ender.
  • The first thing I wanted to stop wearing were regular bras, and this sports bra is perfect under a tee shirt or tank top. It doesn't have a ton of support but it's soft and really comfortable.
  • This dress still fits great and I wear it a lot. It's also just really flattering on, pregnant or not.
  • I've been living in athletic wear even more now that I teach Pure Barre a few times a week, and these Alo leggings have been a lifesaver. They're high-waisted without a seam so they don't cut into your belly and they look very smooth under a shirt. I just got this style recently but the others I linked to below have stuck with me since before I got pregnant.
  • Baggy tank tops like this were great those first few months when I felt like I was getting a little bigger but not really ready to let people know that we were expecting. (I always feel like I'm getting way more for my money when I buy shirts I can work out in or wear out somewhere.)
  • These leggings are probably the coolest pants I've ever owned. They're so pretty and make me feel like a bit of a badass. I love the mesh detail and the pintucked panels. They were my first Alo purchase and I was a little unsure about the high price tag but I wear them so much they were absolutely worth it.

That's it for now! Do you have any pieces of clothing that you wear all the time no matter what? And please let me know if you have any other requests for posts--clothing/pregnancy-related or not! I'm teaching a bit less and just finished a big project so I'm excited to spend some extra time on the blog for the rest of the summer and into the fall, and I always love hearing from you guys with questions and/or requests.
