A Very North Carolina Hot Dog + a Pimento Cheese Recipe

Freckled Italian | Pimento Cheese Dogs

When Hebrew National asked me to share a regional side dish or topping for this month's post, my first thought was pimento cheese. Rob and I were (pleasantly) surprised to find pimento cheese everywhere when we moved to Charlotte--on burgers or grilled cheese sandwiches, incorporated into a hot cheese dip with chips (which is delicious, by the way), or even just as a side with crackers. It is truly a Southern staple.

One of the best hot dogs I've ever had was here in North Carolina, and it was topped with pimento cheese and served with some homemade pickles on the side, so of course I had to try to recreate it for this post! I love the combination of hot dog straight from the grill with cold pimento cheese spread that's slowly starting to melt--delicious!

If you can't find it readily anywhere and everywhere like you can down here in North Carolina, it's easy enough to make:

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups mayonaisse
  • 1 4-ounce jar of diced pimento, drained
  • 1 teaspoon grated onion (or onion powder)
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 8 ounces shredded extra-sharp Cheddar cheese
  • 8 ounces sharp Cheddar cheese, also shredded
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground red pepper (optional, but recommended!)

Instructions: Combine all ingredients in a bowl and mix well. Serve on everything!

* The combination of franks and these toppings may not be Kosher.

Freckled Italian | A Very NC Hot Dog

What makes a Hebrew National kosher hot dog premium? It's all about what makes the cut (and what doesn't). We're choosy about what goes into our franks--we use only premium cuts of 100% kosher beef from the front half of the cow and then choose the best from that. No artificial flavors, colors, fillers, or by-products. When your hot dog is Kosher, that's a hot dog you can trust! For more summer fun with Hebrew National, visit facebook.com/hebrewnational.

What I Wore 53: The Everyday Pencil Skirt, Part Two

Hi guys! We got back from California late last night, so I'll be unpacking and catching up on emails today, but I wanted to try to jump back into a regular posting schedule right away with this What I Wore look from a few weeks ago. I have a lot more pictures from San Francisco and Sonoma, so I hope you're excited to see some of them soon!

I bought this crop top at the BCBGeneration store in Mall of America last year because I saw it and thought "hell yeah, I'm twenty-something, let's do this," and then I never wore it once. I feel like the rule with crop tops is that your belly button has to be covered--is that a real thing?--and even my super high-waisted jeans still left the majority of my stomach exposed.

It wasn't until I paired it with my favorite pencil skirt that I realized I could put it on and then actually leave the house. And while it's not exactly a work-appropriate look, I think it's perfect for happy hour or a night out with the girls.

Top: BCBGeneration | Skirt: J.Crew

Shoes: Jessica Simpson | Bag: Kate Spade

Earrings: c/o Stella & Dot | Bracelet: Chloe + Isabel

San Francisco, Day Two + Wine Country

We left San Francisco on Monday morning, stopping for lunch in Burlingame before heading up to Santa Rosa for the night. Our Airbnb was so dreamy--we had a private cottage in the middle of this lovely couple's garden backyard.

Yesterday was jam-packed with wine adventures, including an absolutely wonderful visit to the La Crema Vineyard, where we were treated to a tour and tasting with Elizabeth, La Crema's wonderful head winemaker. Courtney and I had a meeting after that and our sweet husbands waited for us before we all headed to the amazing loft where we'll be staying, cooking, and shooting until Friday morning. This trip has been such a dream!

Here's another list of places we went and things we ate:

Today we have our work cut out for us--with a few more meetings, lots of grocery shopping, and quite a bit of cooking and shooting. I'm so excited to share everything we've been working on with you soon!
