Coffee Talk | Fall Treats

Now that the weather is finally getting cooler in Charlotte, I'm finding myself wanting that always-comforting afternoon cup of coffee more and more. You know the one--it's usually paired with another chapter of whatever book you're reading or, if you're me right now, an embarrassing number of episodes of Gilmore Girls on Netflix.

Yesterday, Rob was able to work from home so we sat on the couch in the afternoon and drank coffee together. It was so nice, with the window to the deck open; just spending time together on a Monday. Those little moments tend to be my favorite.

Recently Lavazza sent me some more coffee, as well as a bottle of caramel syrup and a milk frother! I would love to be able to tell you that I resisted the caramel, but let's face it--does anyone not like caramel? I rarely ever sweeten my coffee, so it was a nice treat yesterday. I do regularly heat up some almond milk and froth it to make luxurious, homemade cafe au laits, which I totally love.

What's your favorite way to have coffee?

Sepia-Toned Loving: Sharing Photos with Seahorse

I don't know about you, but for me, half the fun of sharing photos on social media is in going back, months later, and reminiscing about that hike, meal, wedding, cup of coffee, or whatever it was that made you stop and snap a photo in the first place. So I scroll through my feed, sometimes through two years of photos.

I was just introduced to Seahorse, which is a mobile application that lets you grab photos from multiple sources (Facebook, Instagram, your phone, etc.) and put them into collections, called "Scenes." Then you can add friends to each scene and they can contribute photos to create a shared experience. I think this would be so fun for a bachelorette party or wedding weekend! You can add all of your friends and share photos along the way.

The scenes I've created so far are "Wedding Photos," "Minnesota" (probably my favorite right now), and "North Carolina." I added Rob to my Minnesota one so he can add photos from his phone, too. It makes such a nice little shared album!

Do you use Seahorse? If not, you should download it (here for Android and here for Apple) and let me know what you think! The app is free, but with the promo code CLEVERHORSE, you can get an extra 5GB or storage until October 31st!

I was selected for this opportunity as a member of Clever Girls Collective and the content and opinions expressed here are all my own.

Recipe: My Homemade Guacamole

Guacamole is a snack I've always loved--my mom used to make it and my friends and I would all gather around the kitchen island, scooping it up and chatting for hours. That's something I remember really vividly from my high school days, and it was always so fun. Now I make a ton of it at a time and eat it with sweet potato chips or sliced cucumbers, in my lettuce wraps with turkey, and even on my scrambled eggs.

When preparing a batch, my mom and I always just kind of make it up as we go, but as I was getting ready to have friends over last night, I thought I'd write down the ingredients so you can make it, too! (I served this with these sweet potato tortilla chips and it was delicious! Our guests loved it.) I'd say my guacamole is pretty standard, so if you make it with different ingredients, I want to know--I'm always up for a little variety!

Ingredients (makes a large bowl):

  • 4-5 avocados
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed garlic
  • 1/2 chopped onion
  • 1 diced jalapeño (remove seeds first)
  • 3 tablespoons of your favorite salsa
  • The juice of 1 1/2-2 fresh limes
  • One bunch of chopped cilantro (or more/less, depending on how you feel about cilantro)

Instructions:

  1. Place all ingredients in a large bowl (I like to use one with a lid so any leftovers are already stored for later).
  2. Use a spoon or a mixer to combine ingredients until it's the consistency you like--I prefer mine on the creamier side but don't mind a few chunks.
  3. Sprinkle with extra cilantro and serve with chips or sliced veggies. Enjoy!
